Synthetic biology will offer a world of possibilities. One of these is developing light emitting trees that could serve as a sustainable alternative for street lamps. This animation paints a picture of what a future with bioluminescent street lamps could look like. The animation is the result of the Rathenau Instituut's ongoing work of bringing synthetic biology into public and political debate.
